What is casting in a baseball swing?

Casting means the barrel leaves the hands early and travels a long way before contact. Coaches fix it by keeping the hands close to the body, which they call staying inside the ball, so the barrel takes a shorter path. The videos explain it and show drills for it.

What it looks like: The hands and the barrel push out away from the body early, so the swing goes around the ball and is late on pitches inside.
