What does flying open mean in pitching?

Flying open means the upper body turns before the hips have done their work, so the pitch loses its direction. Coaches work on hip and shoulder separation (the hips turning first while the shoulders stay closed) and on what the glove arm does. The videos explain both.

What it looks like: The front shoulder and chest turn toward home plate early, and the glove arm swings away to the side.
