A 12.5-inch closed-back youth first base mitt with a triple reinforced single post web, black leather palm and accents, built from lightweight softer steer hide leather with added padding. Sold in black for right- or left-hand throw and aimed at players aged 8-13 in baseball and softball.

Type	Youth first base mitt
Size	12.5 in What this means Measured from the heel to the top of the index finger. Infielders use smaller gloves (10.25 to 11.75 in) for quick transfers; outfielders larger (12 to 12.75 in); first base and catcher's mitts are measured differently. Tip: Bigger is not better for a young infielder. A glove they can close beats a glove that looks like a pro's.

LeatherstatedSteerhide
Break-instatedGame-readyStated: page uses break-in or softness wording.
What this means
Soft out of the box and usable the first day. Made with softer leather that will not last as long as a stiff pro glove, which is fine for a growing player.
Tip: For most players under 12 this is the right answer.
Closing effortderivedMediumDerived from break-in class.
What this means
How hard a young hand has to squeeze to close the glove on a ball. Easy means a soft build and a smaller pattern; hard means stiff leather or a big mitt.
Tip: If your player drops balls that hit the pocket, closing effort is usually the reason, not the hands.
