A 30.5-inch open-back youth baseball catcher's mitt with a solid post web, built from lightweight softer steer hide leather with a pre-treated palm and added padding inside. Sold in black for right-hand throw only and aimed at catchers in the 7-10 year old age group.

Type	Youth catcher's mitt
Size	30.5 in What this means Measured from the heel to the top of the index finger. Infielders use smaller gloves (10.25 to 11.75 in) for quick transfers; outfielders larger (12 to 12.75 in); first base and catcher's mitts are measured differently. Tip: Bigger is not better for a young infielder. A glove they can close beats a glove that looks like a pro's.

The maker says	The Youth Series produces a professional grade glove suitable for young players. Lightweight leather backing and a pre-treated palm make the youth gloves easier to squeeze. Youth gloves are designed from pro patterns and are super easy to break in. The Fortus line has beefed up padding making it more of an advanced youth type of glove. This is the perfect starting catchers mitt for a youth baseball player.

LeatherstatedSteerhide
Break-instatedGame-readyStated: page uses break-in or softness wording.
What this means
Soft out of the box and usable the first day. Made with softer leather that will not last as long as a stiff pro glove, which is fine for a growing player.
Tip: For most players under 12 this is the right answer.
Closing effortderivedMediumDerived from break-in class.
What this means
How hard a young hand has to squeeze to close the glove on a ball. Easy means a soft build and a smaller pattern; hard means stiff leather or a big mitt.
Tip: If your player drops balls that hit the pocket, closing effort is usually the reason, not the hands.
