Model 17 is a maple game bat with a thin handle and a big barrel, modeled after the G174. The page gives a very, very thin 7/8" handle, a small conventional knob and a medium-large 2 9/16" barrel, with normal production of 3-4 weeks.

Model code17
WoodMaple
What this means

Dense and hard, the most common pro wood. Hits hard and holds up when the player squares the ball up; breaks rather than flakes when mis-hit. Quality varies a lot by maker.

Tip: Maple from a good maker is the best wood bat money can buy; maple from a cheap one is the worst.

Barrelbig barreled; medium-large 2 9/16" barrel
What this means

A big barrel (about 2.56 in and up) gives the most hitting surface. Its size does not decide the balance: some big-barrel bats are balanced.

Handlevery, very thin 7/8" handle
What this means

A handle under about 0.93 in. It whips through the zone and feels fast, but it stings more on mis-hits and, in wood, breaks more easily. Common on pro models.

Tip: Thin handles and young hands do not mix well in cold weather; expect sting.

KnobStandard
What this means

A traditional round knob. The simplest feel and what most beginners should start with.

  • For hitters who like a bit more balance but like the whip of a thin handle.
