Facts as the maker states them, read 13 Oct 2026

Tater-X4 Pro bat in maple or birch, with a thin handle, medium barrel, bell knob and balanced feel, built on the RA13 turn with a modified barrel. Made in USA with a 30-day limited warranty and lengths of 31 to 34 inches as a buyer's choice.

Model codeX4
WoodMaple or birch
What this means

Maple. Dense and hard, the most common pro wood. Hits hard and holds up when the player squares the ball up; breaks rather than flakes when mis-hit. Quality varies a lot by maker.

Tip: Maple from a good maker is the best wood bat money can buy; maple from a cheap one is the worst.

Birch. Softer than maple and more forgiving of mis-hits; hardens with use. A good choice for a first wood bat and for younger players.

Wood gradepro-grade maple or birch; hard maple and yellow birch both MLB-grade
Drop−3
What this means

Drop is length minus weight: a 30 in, 20 oz bat is a -10. A bigger drop number means a lighter bat for its length. Younger players use -10 to -13; USSSA 13U is usually capped at -5; high school and college are -3.

Tip: Check the drop your league allows before you look at anything else.

Barrelmedium barrel
What this means

The middle of the range (about 2.45 to 2.55 in). Most pro turn models live here.

Tip: A safe default when you are not sure.

Handlethin handle
What this means

A handle under about 0.93 in. It whips through the zone and feels fast, but it stings more on mis-hits and, in wood, breaks more easily. Common on pro models.

Tip: Thin handles and young hands do not mix well in cold weather; expect sting.

KnobBell
What this means

The handle widens into the knob like the bell of a trumpet. Players who choke up or want leverage like it; it also keeps the bottom hand from sliding off. Popular from high school up.

BalanceBalanced
What this means

Weight is spread evenly, so the bat feels lighter than its number. A player who uses the knob or handle to deliver the barrel often needs the weight balanced or down toward the hands. Balance is not barrel size: some big-barrel bats are balanced.

Tip: Which one is right depends on your player and how consistently they deliver the barrel.

Lengths31 to 34 in
Ink dotYes
What this means

An ink dot on the handle shows the maker tested the grain slope. It is required for maple and birch bats used in pro ball and is a good sign of wood selection on any bat.

Compared on the pagemodel basis: RA13 turn (modified barrel); "Built on the RA13 turn model — the same profile Ronald Acuña swings — with a modified barrel"; "Compared to a 271, the X4 has a thinner handle, a tighter barrel taper, and the bell knob instead of the 271's flared knob."

The maker says
  • It is Tater's most popular balanced bat for contact hitters.
  • Same wood, turning logic and hand-finishing as bats cut for MLB, MiLB and Division I hitters.
  • Tater hand-cups each bat.
